One layer cake, one quilt top, one day. That is the whole promise, and the pattern delivers on it.
The method is stack and slice: layer your 10" squares, cut once, and reassemble. No individual piecing of small units, no matching a hundred seams, no fiddly cutting. It is the closest thing quilting has to a shortcut that still produces something worth keeping, because the visual interest comes from your fabric choices rather than from block complexity.
That makes this the pattern for a specific and very common situation. You have a layer cake you love, you have a weekend, and you want to finish something. Most patterns ask you to trade one of those for the others. This one does not.
Blocks finish at 9". Ideal for beginners, and a legitimate palate cleanser for experienced quilters between longer projects.
Throw, 55" x 64": one layer cake (42 squares, 10" x 10")
Twin, 64" x 82": one and a half layer cakes (63 squares)
