Donuts Quilt Pattern by Johanna Masko

A simple, oversized donut shape, and a pattern that works for beginners and experienced quilters alike.

The design is a ring block, staggered across the quilt so the donuts sit in an offset layout rather than a strict grid. Some are whole and some are halves at the edges, which is what keeps it from reading as a repeating block quilt and gives it that loose, modern feel.

It pieces fast and it is built to showcase large scale prints, which is the real reason to reach for it. The donut center is a generous open shape, big enough that a print you love actually shows rather than getting chopped into unreadable fragments. If you have been hoarding a panel, a large-scale floral, or a screen print you could not bring yourself to cut small, this is the pattern that uses it well.

Quilters who have made it consistently note how well it is written, with cutting instructions that produce very little waste and no leftover scraps you did not need to cut. That is not a small thing. Sloppy cutting instructions waste fabric and goodwill in equal measure, and this pattern avoids both.

Fabric requirements cover two sizes, and the design adjusts easily to whatever size you want. The throw finishes at 51" x 63".
